Blackburn Rovers 1890 Football Shirt

£15.00
SKU: BLBN-SHRT-1890

Available exclusively from Historical Football Kits, this shirt is an exact replica of the ones worn by Blackburn Rovers when they were in their pomp in the late 18th century. Their hat-trick of FA Cup wins in 1884, 1885 and 1886 heralded the arrival of the new breed of working-class clubs that ended the monopoly of the teams of amateur gentlemen-players that had dominated the game since the formation of the Football Association in 1863. They went on to become founder members of the Football League but the FA Cup remained their main target and they won the competition again in 1890 and 1891. In the twentieth century, Rovers' shirts became a deeper shade of blue but the team never recaptured the glory of those early years when their pale blue and white "quartered" shirts (they were never described as "halved") were famous throughout the world.

Manufactured in the UK from 100% drill cotton, this historic shirt is hand-finished to the very highest standards and comes with a reproduction postcard showing the team wearing the original tops along with additional information. The shirt comes in a special presentation box made from 100% recyclable materials.
